Where we serve

CENTRAL AMERICA

Honduras – Where it all began
Activity Level: 1-5 Security Level: Green (what is this?)

This is where God birthed Extreme Missionary Adventures back in the 90s and its still the heart of our ministry. Through the blessings of the Lord and many hundreds of volunteers we have planted over one hundred thriving, evangelical churches in previously unreached remote villages. The Lord has also allowed us to build two Child Care Centers and a Christian FM radio station reaching over 500,000 people with the Gospel. We usually send 25 to 35 volunteer teams per year to Honduras.

We have three volunteer bases in Honduras. Our main location is The River House located on the banks of the beautiful Mame River in the rugged, wild-west department of Olancho. Here we have a comfortable (by Honduran standards) volunteer house plus our national training center including a tabernacle, men’s & women’s dormitories and dining facilities. The training center is used for week long training seminars for local pastors and laity several times each year. Our other two volunteer bases in Honduras are newer and are in the towns of Danli and Siguatepeque. Each is hosted by fulltime XMA staff families.

Our Honduran Extreme Missionary Adventure trips are ‘up2u’ trips meaning the adventure level and ministry is determined by each team. Whether you are into laid-back adventure or strenuous activity, we have a trip that’s just right for you. You can also choose from a variety of ways to spread the Gospel of God’s love. Opportunities include construction, medical and dental work, sports evangelism, pastor training, showing the Jesus Film, and working in childcare centers, among others. Your team will travel by commercial airline, four wheel drive truck and possibly by boat and/or on foot to reach the lost all the way from the cities to the remote villages in the beautiful mountains of Honduras. You will be working hands on with local Honduran Christians to bring the good news to those who have never heard it.

Honduran adventure with a purpose trips are usually eight days long, Saturday to Saturday, and cost approximately $1,300 per person. Team size is typically six to eight people although we do have many teams of twenty or more. Each team is accompanied by an experienced XMA teamleader and one or more Honduran hosts/guides/interpreters. Find your Honduran adventure here. Check out the Calendar!

The local people’s most urgent need is for a true understanding of the Gospel.

Nicaragua – Come help us develop a church planting ministry in remote villages
Activity Level: 2-4 Security Level: Green (what is this?)

Several years ago IMB missionaries Preston and Brenda West helped us get started in remote village evangelism in Honduras. The West family is now serving in Nicaragua and they have invited XMA to help them develop a church planting ministry in the remote areas of Nicaragua.

Our Nicaraguan Extreme Missionary Adventure trips are ‘up2u’ trips meaning the adventure level and ministry is determined by each team. Whether you are into laid-back adventure or strenuous activity, we have a trip that’s just right for you. We also have many ways to spread the Gospel of God’s love. Opportunities include showing the Jesus Film, oral Bible storying, medical and dental work, sports evangelism, pastor training among others. Your team will travel by commercial airline to Managua, then by four wheel drive truck and possibly on further on foot or mule. You will be working hands on with local Nicaraguans Christians to bring the good news to those who have never heard it.

Nicaraguan adventure with a purpose trips are usually eight days long, Saturday to Saturday, and cost approximately $1,300 per person. Team size is typically six to eight people. Each team is accompanied by an experienced XMA teamleader and one or more Nicaraguan hosts/guides/interpreters. Find your Nicaraguan adventure with a purpose here. Check out the Calendar!

SOUTH AMERICA

Peru – Reaching Out to the Asheninka
Activity Level: 3-5 Security Level: Green (what is this?)

Your Peruvian Adventure begins with travel by commercial airline, then bush plane and/or 4-wheel “jungle taxi” and finally by boat along tributaries of the Amazon River to visit remote Asheninka Indian villages deep in the jungles of Peru. Once in the villages you will use pre-recorded oral Bible stories and/or the Jesus Film to help plant churches in previously unreached villages. This is truly exciting work as most of these people have never even heard the Gospel before!

Asheninka Adventure trips are usually nine days, Saturday to Sunday, and cost $2,000 and up according to how many members are included in the team. Team size is typically four to five men and/or women. Check here to find out how you can be a part of the awesome work God is doing through XMA in Peru. Check out the Calendar!

ASIA

Southeast Asia Mountain Biking
Activity Level: 5 Security Level: Red (what is this?)

We have a very unique opportunity to partner with IMB missionaries in Southeast Asia using mountain bikers to share the Gospel with several unreached people groups. These people groups live in remote areas of a very restricted country. The missionaries have developed a sports tourism platform as a cover to bring short term mountain biking “tourist” into the villages. While in the villages they will have opportunities to share Bible stories and open doors for further evangelism.
This is some of the most awesome biking in the world! You’ll be riding 20 to 40 miles a day on single track, double track and some “paved” roads. This is beautiful mountainous country with elevations of 3,000 to 6,000 feet so be ready for some serious biking. The bikes are provided (new Trek 4300s) or you can bring your own. Team members will need to provide helmet, bike shorts, hydration pack, etc.
Due to the extremely hot, humid weather in the summer these trips take place during the winter months. They are about ten to twelve days long and will be limited to no more than four people – your teamleader plus two or three others. The total cost for the trip including bike rental, lodging, food, insurance, transportation, visas and everything else is $2,800 per person. Space is very limited so check our trip calendar and signup today! Check out the Calendar!

Central Asia Storying Adventure
Activity Level: 3-4 Security Level: Red (what is this?)

Are you a “people-person”? Do you like to hang out telling stories? Do you like learning about other cultures and people? Do you like to drink tea? Then this is just the adventure for you. We will spend a week hanging out, drinking tea and eating a lot of really good local food while developing relationships and sharing stories from our lives. Of course, the most important stories are what Christ has done for us and we’ll also talk about this with some very interested people. It’s not uncommon for a meal to go on for several hours as our hosts ask sincere questions about this Jesus and listen intently. In some cases we even show them a movie about Jesus on the equipment we just happen to have with us.

These open-minded people are cultural Muslims but most know very little about Islam. They are Muslim because of where they live not necessarily what they believe. They also live in a fairly open, democratic country right in the middle of many very restricted countries. So, by helping reach these people you will be planting seeds which could grow across borders into areas we cannot go.

Severe winter weather limits access to these people to the spring, summer and fall months. Trips are ten days long and cost about $3,000. It includes 4 wheel driving (and possibly hiking), staying in village homes and making lots of new friendships. Join us on this Adventure with a Purpose trip! Check out the Calendar!

Western Asia Car Touring with a Purpose
Activity Level: 3-4 Security Level: Red (what is this?)

We have an urgent request from IMB personnel to assist with a literature distribution project in a moderate west Asian country. This is very similar to the distribution work we were doing in China a couple of years ago except it does not require backpacking. This is a new work and a vital part of delivering God’s saving word to an unreached people group who live outside their homeland. Long-term workers are not able to do this without possibly losing access to this country and people.

Travel will be by rental car to small towns and villages throughout this beautiful country staying in guesthouses and some car camping in the desert if desired. Volunteers will break up into two person teams to tour different parts of the country where the target people groups live. As they go about normal tourist activities they will discreetly distribute audio materials in a variety of places. The adventure of touring this unique country combined with the intrigue would make an awesome ‘working’ vacation with a purpose for couples or friends!

Trips are planned for this December and January if we have the volunteers. They will be ten days long and cost $3,000 to $3,500 depending on airfare and car rental costs. Come join us today! Check out the Calendar!

AFRICA

Africa – Partnering with Latin American Missionaries
We have placed volunteer teams in Zambia and Equatorial Guinea in the past but are not currently using volunteers in our Africa ministry. We are still involved in sharing the Gospel in Equatorial Guinea through our partnership with a missionary family from Columbia, South America. This family includes Carlos & Diana Echiverri and their two teenage daughters. The Echiverris are church planters and are helping with human needs work such as education and AIDS. XMA is providing over 50% of the financial support for the Echiverris. Check out the Calendar!

NORTH AMERICA

TribalConnection: Impact the world without leaving home
Adventure Level: 1 Security Level: Green (what is this?)

The internet is making it possible for anyone to be a part of what God is doing around the world with just a click of the mouse. Through XMA TribalConnection on this website you can join us in an Online Adventure with a Purpose. We need more volunteers to serve as “teamleaders” to guide others in their Online Adventure with a Purpose. Our TribalConnection (TC) teamleaders don’t need to be computer geeks or have any previous experience. The only requirements are a computer with internet access and a willingness to be used of God in an exciting new way.

As a TC teamleader you could serve as moderator or host for one of the TC chatrooms or blogs. We’ll be setting up several of these blogs each one focused on a specific country or area of ministry. For example we could have a blog for Honduras, one for Peru, another for medical missions and one for mountain biking missions. As the host for one of these blogs you would help welcome new members, start new discussions, make sure the conversation doesn’t wander too far off track, perhaps set times when specific subjects will be discussed and so on. This would not be a big time commitment. You could do it while on breaks at work (if the boss allows) and/or in the evenings at home. It is something the whole family could do together as a family mission project.

For the more computer savvy online adventurers TC offers a cutting-edge missions opportunity as we develop a culturally relevant presence within the online metaverses such as Second Life. Volunteers for this will need to be younger (or at least young at heart and thought) and will need a fast computer with very good graphics and high speed internet. We’re not at all sure where this online adventure will lead us but we do know that there are literally millions of people who are desperately looking for meaning through these alternate worlds. We, who have the one true answer, are commanded to be there for them.
TribalConnection costs nothing, does not require any special training or equipment, has a very low time commitment and you don’t even need a passport! Click on this link to find out how you can join us in an Online Adventure with a Purpose. What is TC?
