How quickly things change!

How quickly things change! I know it's a cliché but I'm still shocked at how abruptly our ministry in Honduras was interrupted. Last Sunday morning Rayland Trisler and a team of college students from North Monroe Baptist Church boarded a flight expecting to spend the week sharing Christ's love in several unreached villages in La Moskitia, Honduras. By the time their plane landed a few hours later the president of Honduras had been exiled and chaos ruled. All transportation within the country was completely shut down along with the opportunity for the team to minister. They holed up in a hotel in San Pedro Sula for a few hours as we made arrangements for their evacuation.

Since Sunday it seems that the only thing that is certain about Honduras is the uncertainty of the situation - conflicting reports from the media and our on-the-ground sources, politicians within Honduras and around the world jockeying for control, confusion and conflict within Honduras.

But there are still some certainties. One is that our God is in control. I don't understand why He let this happen but I do believe that He is in control. Perhaps this is a stretch but quite possibly God has allowed these men to disrupt Honduran society so that His love can be shown through the actions of His people. Remember the story of Jesus healing the blind man? In John 9:3 Jesus, speaking of the blind man, tells us, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”

Another certainty is that there are still many spiritual and physical needs in Honduras. In fact, this chaos has increased the needs and the urgency of our actions. As Jesus goes on to say in the next verse, “As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.” We must let this situation and Jesus' words remind us of the urgency of our work. We must take advantage of the “day” He has given XMA to work in Central America, South America and Asia, for the “night” is coming when no one can work! We must continue, even increase if possible, our evangelism, our church planting, our discipleship and our humanitarian work.

Thanks so much for your personal involvement, your faithful prayers and your support for our work in Honduras and around the world. Without you we could not do the work God has called us to do!
