Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
- Matthew 10:39
Our xma team had been working all week showing the Jesus Film in remote mountain villages of Northwestern Honduras and we were on our way back down. As we started down the last slope we stopped in a grove of trees to rest and admire the awesome beauty of God’s creation. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and I saw the town of Belene below – the houses, soccer field, the big Catholic Church facing the town square, the animals and the people milling around in no hurry to get anywhere. Then I noticed several large birds soaring overhead on the thermal air currents. They looked so graceful circling around, floating up and down without even moving a wing. I was envious of their freedom and ability to soar above this beautiful valley and take in all of the wonder of God’s Creation.
Suddenly it dawned on me, they would not have this freedom if they were not willing to let go of the tree branch and fly as God created them to do. And it’s the same with you and me – if we are too afraid to step out of our comfort zone, or too proud or too selfish to let go of the things of this world we can never be truly free to soar above it all and to be all that God created us to be. I encourage you to let go of whatever you are holding onto for comfort or safety and let the Lord show you the extreme freedom that can only be found in trusting Him with everything!
